As anyone who follows us on social media knows, we’ve spent the last one and half months running three consecutive SkyWeek Trips. I decided to give Peter Trott a call and find out how he got on during SkyWeek Brazil:
Alex: Pete, welcome back from yet another SkyWeek Brazil trip! This must be feeling like a second home for you by now. How many trips have you been on now?
Pete: I’ve been to Saquarema four times, and I also did the Amazon trip last September. So, this marks my fifth SkyWeek Brazil adventure.

Alex: Five trips! That’s impressive. How would you rate this one compared to the others?
Pete: It was just as amazing as always, but every trip has its own unique flavour. The mixture of pilots and the variety of flying standards makes each one a different experience. As you know, Ricardo caters to all levels, so it’s always fun and engaging for everyone involved. This time, we explored a few different spots, which added a nice variety to the usual routine. A lot of people think SkyWeek Brazil is just about beach flying, but there’s so much more. We flew inland, checked out some new flying spots, and saw places I hadn’t visited before. When we weren't flying we were on the boat! It’s never boring, that’s for sure.

Photo: After 5 trips, the Brazilian Customs have got to know Pete quite well!
Alex: Sounds like a truly varied experience! I’ve seen some footage of you taking off from a stunningly pristine grass field. That looked like something special. Can you share more about that?
Pete: Ah, that was a standout moment. In 2021, Ricardo helped host the Paramotor World Championships there. The fields are used to cultivate turf for sports fields, it’s like flying off a massive, perfectly maintained green carpet. You couldn’t ask for a smoother or more immaculate take-off point. Needless to say, we took full advantage of that and I almost organised a game of cricket afterwards!

Alex: I bet that was something! Now, I know you like to track your flying hours. How much time did you spend in the air on this trip?
Pete: Yep, I keep a close eye on my hours. This time, I ended up with just under 20 hours.
Alex: That’s some serious airtime! How many days were you able to fly?
Pete: We were there for 11 days and got nine days of flyable weather. So, plenty of time to get up in the air and enjoy the views.
Alex: Wow, nine days of flying—that’s amazing! Sounds like it was another incredible trip. You don’t tend to get that amount of flying in the UK, do you?
Pete: No, definitely not. It’s a unique experience out there.
Alex: And on this trip, you had quite a few familiar faces, but also a few new people, including an American called Dale. How did he get on?
Pete: Dale did really well. He's 66 years old, and I actually trained him three years ago. I hadn’t seen him since, so it was a pleasant surprise to meet him again at Rio de Janeiro airport. Honestly, you couldn’t meet a nicer bloke. He’s incredibly intelligent, works his socks off, and does whatever is asked of him when it comes to flying.

Alex: I hear the only thing he struggled with was the British sense of humour? Pete
Pete: Yeah, he did! In fact, we nicknamed him “Lord Lucan,” but you’ll need to watch the video to understand that particular joke. You know how it is, British humour can be a bit of a challenge at first for our American friends!
Alex: So when’s that video coming out?
Pete: As soon as possible. I was filming with four cameras this year, plus I grabbed a load of footage from everyone else. I’ve just finished editing day five of the trip, so it’ll take a few more weeks to finish. But I promise it’ll be worth the wait.
Alex: Can’t wait to see it when it’s ready! So, what’s next on your agenda for the year?
Pete: Tomorrow, I’m driving down to Brighton to get some flying in, as it’s looking like a good day for it. After that, I’m helping to host the SkyWeek France trip in September.
Alex: September! That seems quite a way away, doesn’t it?
Pete: Yeah, it does. But in the meantime, I’ll be getting plenty of flying in around the UK.
Alex: Great! I’ll be back in July and heading up north. Maybe we can meet up for some flying in the Lake District and Scotland, then?

Photo: A typical view on SkyWeek Brazil
Pete: Definitely! When you’re over in July, give me a shout if it’s flyable, and as you know, I’ll be there! I’ve got a secret little spot in Scotland I’ve been meaning to check out, but let’s keep that between you and me for now!
Alex: That sounds like a plan. Have fun tomorrow, and thanks so much for chatting. It’s been great catching up. Anything else you want to add before we sign off?
Pete: For those who are interested in coming on SkyWeek Brazil, just go for it, as you won’t regret it!
