Somme Battlefield Paramotor Tour 2016

Battlefield Tours

Canadian National Vimy MemorialSkySchool has been running Paramotor Trips to the WW1 and WW2 Battlefields in northern Europe for many years. Paramotoring is unique as it gives you the ability to see locations like these from a totally different perspective, something most people do not have the opportunity to experience. One of our favourite routes to fly is along the D Day Beaches in Normandy from Arromanches les Bains to Utah Beach on the Cotentin Peninsular. This amazing Cross Country flight takes in the remains of the Mulberry Harbour, the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach and the preserved gun batteries at Pointe du Hoc.

In September 2016 SkySchool MD Alex Ledger, who is an avid Military Historian, led a team of Paramotor and ParaTrike pilots, including several ex service men, on a flying trip around the Somme Battlefields during the centenary year of this infamous battle. We were blessed with amazing weather conditions which allowed us to fly the entire 22 miles of the frontline, including over the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, the preserved battlefield at Beaumont-Hamel, Lochnagar Crater and the South African National Memorial in Delville Wood. We also flew over the stunning Canadian National Vimy Memorial near Arras which stands atop an escarpment in 250 acres of preserved battlefield. It was an amazing trip and we continue to offer similar experiences as part of our SkyWeek France programs. We guarantee you will not fail to be moved by this unique experience!
