Paramotor D-Day
SkySchool MD Alex Ledger is an avid Military Historian and ever since he learned to Paramotor he has always wanted to fly over the D-Day beaches in Normandy, France. On the 6th of June 1944 Normandy bore witness to the largest amphibious invasion of all time, with over 160,000 troops landing on 5 different beaches codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. Normandy now has the largest number of museums in the world and is visisted by millions of tourists each year. However, there can be no better way of viewing these historic locations than from a Paramotor which is why SkySchool ran it's first trip to this historic location in July 2010. This trip was a huge success which is why SkySchool plans to return in July 2011 between the 24th and 31st July 2011. The Trip is designed for Paramotor pilots who have either sat a SkySchool course or have a minimum of 10 hours in the past 2 years.
NEXT TRIP: 24th - 31st July 2011
The Plan
We will stay at a camp site near Vierville sur Mer on Omaha beach from where we can easily access a variety of take off points just above the beach. During the week we will try to fly over Omaha beach, Pointe du Hoc, Utah beach, the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches, the Merville Battery, Pegasus Bridge as well as Gold, Juno and Sword beaches.
There is no set itinerary as the weather will no doubt cause problems however, when it allows, the aim is to fly as much as possible in as many locations as possible. If the weather does cause problems then we will simply visit the beaches on foot as well as the vast number of museums in the region. SkySchool will provide transportation during the trip however we suggest pilots arrange their own transport to and from Normandy and if possible share cars. We also suggest you bring your own flying and camping equipment however paramotors, wings, reserves and tents will be available to rent.
